Cherkezi dzor was a unique entertainment place for Gyumri people, hospitable inhabitants of the city always visited there with their friends and relatives to spend time. It also has a historical meaning. During the czarist Russia, Red fortress was founded here, which is part of a military defense complex with typical city-centered solutions with all its infrastructures. Some of them are still preserved and constitute the bulk of the architectural part of the area. One of the features of Çherkezi Dzor is the frost-free natural springs that flow from the Dzor River.
After a devastating earthquake in 1988, life seemed to have stopped, trees were cut off, garbage was accumulated, and the ravine lost its attractiveness. Fortunately, in 1999, architect Mr. Hmayak Gevorgyan initiated and launched a great project aimed at saving the historic favorite place in Gyumri, the Cherkez ravine, improving it, making it even more interesting and attractive not only for the Gyumri residents, but also for tourists and guests. He founded “Khaytc Ishkhan” company, improved the whole area of the ravine, built basins, beautiful artificial lakes, a fish farm, a recreational area and a very nice restaurant with unique architectural solutions. Alive fish was taken to the market. In the beginning people were in doubt, but soon Cherkezi Dzor fish became very popular. People started to buy right from the restaurant. Because the place were cleaned and get its olden look, Gyumri people started to visit there with families to spend time, have some rest there, order fish from fish farm. The gorge found its olden popularity, Gyumri people started to call it Cherkezi dzor. Studying new approaches of the business, hardworking of the owner Cherkez dzor became a special family leisure place for Gyumri families, it has become known not only in Gyumri, but has become favorite place for especially our guests. Cherkezi Dzor restaurant with its experienced cooks and waiters can simultaneously serve 600 customers, the restaurant produce five species of fish: sturgeon, Sevan Lake trout, rainbow trout, salmon trout, river trout, they are served steamed and barbequed. They have also yellow, red and orange caviar. Trout caviar is the pride of the company, which is known as “Cherkezi Dzor” brand. The restaurant has also bread production. Traditional Armenian bread Lavash and Boqon, rye bread is baked by wheat from Shirak Valley, the ecologically clean products are important elements of the menu. Besides traditional black tea, they can offer you to try collections from the fragrant and useful herbs gathered on the slopes of picturesque gorges. These fragrant drinks from mint, marjoram can be perfectly combined with ecologically pure honey collected from the apiary next to their restaurant and also with amber jam from the sea-buckthorn berries prepared by their hostesses.
All these are only 10% of our ideas, we still have a lot to be done. Gradually we are going to enlarge our business, Cherkezi Dzor will turn into a center of Eco tourism, rural tourism, and leisure place. It's a mission, and we all understand that if we do not, no one will do it for us. We’ll develop our country, to move forward. Nature and history, no matter how cruel it has been to our people, we have a huge heritage, which is our natural wealth. You are welcome to taste.
